Lake Titicaca

February 21st, 2006 by Mike

Yesterday and today we toured Lake Titicaca. We stayed the night on an island with a local Quechua speaking family. Fortunately, our house parents knew some Spanish.

First stop on our boat ride was to one of the floating islands of the Uros people. We got to walk on the sponge-like surface and later Alicia went for a ride in an authentic reed boat.
Three and a half hours later (yes, the lake is HUGE) we arrived at the real island of Amantani. One the way we made friends with Alice from the UK. We all stayed here.
ItŽs hard to believe we are over 10,000 feet in elevation here. If you look closely, youŽll see Rolan, a young boy in our host family. Boliva should be on the horizon, but itŽs too far to see.
In the evening, the locals threw the tourists a fiesta, complete with local attire!
After breakfast the next day, we headed to another ŽrealŽ island, Taquilla. More awe inspiring views.
A road on Tequilla.
Such a nice pose, I had to take his picture!
