Three Days on the Sea

March 23rd, 2006 by Mike

Alicia and I arrived safely in Puerto Natales today. The 3-day boat ride went very smoothly…well, except for one night when we were on the open seas and I got a bit seasick!

HereŽs the boat. Cargo or cruise ship?

Boarding the boat. More like a ferry than a cruise ship, huh?

Riding the cargo lift to get to the main deck.

Goodbye Puerto Montt!

Actually the inside was decent.

Everything looks ok from the flight deck.

I hope we donŽt end up like this ship! This is a cargo ship that the captain tried to abandon to claim the insurance money. He was caught in his fraud but they now use the ship for a lighthouse.

Approaching Port Eden, the one stop along the way. The port is on one of the largest islands in Chile, Wellington Island.

Along the way we got fairly close to three or four small glaciers, a few touching the sea.

HereŽs the narrowest passage along the journey.

Finally, we made it to the windy port town of Puerto Natales!

WeŽve already booked our trip to Parque Nacional Torres del Painne so weŽll be out of internet reach for another two days.
