Let the Projects Begin

February 26th, 2007 by Mike

We decided to commit to a few projects before B-Day, the day baby Jankers shows up. The first project was a simple one – replace a toilet and sink in the main bathroom. We spent about 3 hours looking at vanities and putting together the order, then waited 3 weeks for everything to show up. Unfortunately, the sink/counter top showed up in Matte finish instead of Glossy, so now we have to wait another 2-3 weeks before we can finish this. Thanks to Dad Rogers for doing most of the work installing the vanity.

The second project is a little more ambitious. We want to remove a wall between our laundry room and tiny powder room, and replace the sink with a smaller utility sink. The laundry had wall tiles so the first step was to remove those.

Next, on to the floor. The joined room will need a new floor because both floors are different right now.
removing tiles

When they installed these tiles they laid about 3/4″ of cement so chiseling the tiles out was a little tough…until I got to this point, where it looks like some water caused the cement to weaken, and the floor underneath to become very weak. So next I guess we have to decide whether to remove just a section of the subfloor, or the whole thing. Suggestions welcome!
