Secret Best Friends
April 13th, 2007 by MikeAh ha, we caught em! Our cats seem to hate each other whenever we are around but every so often we catch a glimpse of their secret friendship. We came home one afternoon and found them trying out our new living room chairs.

Our pregnancy is going well but Alicia is definitely slowing down a bit. The other day I even had to tie her shoes. She can do it on her own but it’s tough. We also started our birthing classes last week. Since we are birthing at a birth center with a mid-wife, we didn’t get to learn the panting breathing that I expected. Instead we were taught relaxing meditation type breathing and we are learning all sorts of techniques and positions to deal with pain.
The mountain bike racing season is just about starting up. This past weekend I did a team relay event with a few of the guys I met through my bike club, aptly named, “Guys Racing”. We placed 14th out of 46 teams. It was a challenging event because we were required to do only one lap per person, and we had to stay in rotation. So we would be going all-out for 16 minutes, then sit around for 45 minutes waiting to go again. Here are my team mates, Pat, John and Brad.

Despite my addiction to bike training and racing, I’ve made progress on the laundry/bath project. This week I finished installing new lights, switches and a fan and wiring it all up.

We haven’t taught the cats to take our pictures yet so here’s a self portrait after my wiring.

Our cats also have an outward anger with each other. I heard that females are the territorial sex and that males tends to get along well — even cuddle. I couldn’t imagine our cats cuddling. (They’re both females.) What’s funny about our cats is that we commonly see then facing the same direction, in a similar pose. This happens even if they can’t see each other. It’s really weird to see them in sync like that.
Is there a hand-off on the mountain bike race? Like does the exiting biker have to pass a baton to the entering biker?
Nice wiring on the fan and accompanying face pic. Are you slicking your hair back these days? It’s always good to look nice when on the job.

That’s really weird that your cats often face the same direction – ours do the exact same thing!
Yeah in the relay race we used a clothes pin as a batton, which had to be handed off between riders while completely stopped.
Stop sassing me about my hair!

Wiring looks great! Reminds me of remodeling our kitchen a few years ago. Good to see you are still biking. How does the terrain differ out there from here in seattle?

Thanks! Yeah, the trails around here are more rocky and there’s less sustained climbing. I’m not complaining though because the ridable season is longer and there are more competitors at the races!

Congratulations on the new baby. Aunt Mernie really likes her name. We hope to see you this summer. Love, Uncle Lankie
