Spring

April 25th, 2008 by Mike

Alicia promised she would post a picture of the tulips so here they are. Yes, spring is definitely here in PA. Big difference from the last post of Mazama, WA!

Nora is getting really close to walking now. She can now stand for a few seconds with no hands. She gets big smile every time she does it and it’s impossible not to smile back seeing the joy of her new independence. She’s also getting good at falling – that is, intentionally falling either forward or backward. It looks painful but I have a feeling it’s going to be a valuable skill once she’s moving.

Nora’s mobility and interest in picking up little things got us thinking we should re-tile our entry. We need to do this because some of the tiles and grout are loose and Alicia never liked the color anyway. See the tile in the background.

Unfortunately, you can’t just replace tile without thinking about all the colors in all the rooms connected to the space (yes, I’m rolling my eyes). So Alicia made a few trips to the paint store and started peeling wallpaper in our kitchen and throwing up sample splotches everywhere. Fortunately, she picked one for the family room so we spent last weekend repainting. So here I am on a beautiful Saturday afternoon…

Checkout our built-in cabinets. The house came with the outer two and Grandpop Rogers made the middle section to hold our TV and AV equipment. It looks perfect – thanks Grandpop!

Nora now gets the right hand cabinet for her toys.

Oh yeah, the mountain bike race season is underway. I did my first race of the season two weekends ago. I placed 12th out of 26. I would have liked to do better but my chain actually broke mid-race! Fortunately I had a chain tool in my pocket so I pulled over and fixed it while a whole ton of people rode by. I must have fixed it pretty quickly because the posted lap times show I was only 2 minutes slower on my first lap when the chain broke.
My results are here

Check out how many ‘sport’ category racers lined up!

Someone captured my photo just after I crossed the finish line. I’m not looking so great because I heard the guy behind me and I knew he would try to pass as soon as we entered the finish field.
