Cherry Laurel Skip
October 13th, 2008 by MikeI haven’t posted any ‘home projects’ lately but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been working. My summer project has kept me busy. I dug up a 20X25 foot asphalt slab from the back yard. At the same time, I have been digging out an area next to the garage so we can widen the driveway and get an extra parking spot. Doing both projects together allowed me to recycle materials – dirt one way; and gravel/asphalt chunks the other.
Here I’m harvesting some of the sod.
And placing in the back
This past week I finished the leveling and seeding the back yard portion. Since I don’t need any more dirt it’s time to bring in the pro’s to finish job. They’ll remove the remaining dirt, grade, apply more gravel and blacktop. But they didn’t want to dispose the large shrub next to the garage and I couldn’t bear to hack it into firewood. I called a nursury and they said it should survive if I chop it down quite a bit and dig out a much smaller portion of it’s roots.

After trimming. Here’s a shot of the entire area
Mostly dug out
Sorry no photos of moving – my photographer’s hands were busy helping out. That thing is heavy!
And…tada! replanted in the back yard.
