Holiday Prep
December 19th, 2008 by AliciaI’m a little late in getting started this year. We haven’t even done any shopping for Nora! And I just sent the Seattle gifts today. Oh well, Christmas is coming whether we’re ready or not.
In preparation for the Santa picture, I took Nora in for her first hair cut. I didn’t get very good before and after shots. Here’s the before shot. I can’t believe how long her hair was. She’s sitting so quietly in a trance, because Barney was on the TV screen right in front of her.
Speaking of Barney… he is one of her favorites. There’s Barney and baby. They’re neck and neck for favorite toy. Barney was a hand me down from a cousin. Baby was “borrowed” from the church nursery. Neither would be my pick for best toy, but I’m learning that what I think doesn’t really matter. Lately Marty the Monkey is in the bunch too, but he’s not in this picture.
Here is the Santa picture. She wasn’t afraid of him, but wasn’t really excited either. She was more interested in the gum ball machines that were next to the line while waiting for Santa. Nora didn’t smile for the longest time. She was just staring straight ahead. Then finally the photographer ran up and tickled her. That did the trick, and we got a nice shot.
Nora continues to learn new things. She’s taking on some chores around the house. She helps with feeding the cats, unloading the dishwasher, putting things in the garbage, and doing laundry. She moves the laundry basket from the stairs to the laundry room and then into the family room for folding. Here she is “folding” the wipes from our load of diapers. When she’s finished folding them, she carries them up the stairs and puts them in the drawer where they belong. The whole process can take up to 30 minutes. She’s very helpful!
Here’s Nora helping Mike with breakfast. When I came back into the kitchen a little later, Nora was in different clothes because she spilled the eggs all over herself! (This picture was taken before the haircut)
And one last picture (also before haircut) of Nora and Mike playing on the exercise ball. She loves this thing. She can even balance on top for a few seconds! Don’t mind the sourpuss look on her face. She didn’t like that I interrupted her bouncing to take a picture. She’s pretty good at letting us know if she doesn’t like our behavior.
Well, I better get moving. It’s time to write some Christmas cards!
